Identifying maize yield and precipitation gaps in Uganda

چکیده

Abstract In sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), precipitation is an important driver of agricultural production. Uganda, maize production essentially rain-fed. However, due to changes in climate, projected yield targets have not often been met as actual observed yields are below simulated/projected yields. This outcome has attributed parallel gaps precipitation. study aims at identifying and Uganda for the period 1998–2017. Time series historical data (hg/ha/year) 1998–2017 were collected from FAOSTAT. Actual growing season also climate portal World Bank Group The simulated or using a simple linear regression approach. now compared with establish gaps. results show that three key periods (period one: 1998, two: 2004–2007 three: 2015–2017) entire (1998–2017), years 2008–2009 had no yet, observed. implies only Uganda. fact, this supported by low correlation between about 6.3%. For better understanding cropping systems SSA, other potential drivers such soils, farm inputs, crop pests diseases, high yielding varieties, literacy, poverty levels should be considered.

An evaluation of yield in "intercropping of maize and potato"

Abstract To find out how maize and potato can grow and develop in an intercropping system rather than each grown alone in a sole cropping system the following factorial experiment was performend in the frame-work of a randomized complete block three replications in the experimental farm of the faculty of agriculture, Zanjan University in year 2004. Different potato to maize ratios of (1:0), i...

Effect of Planting Patterns and Vermicompost on Yield and Yield Components in Maize and Beans Intercropping

Intercropping systems compared to monoculture systems can more efficiently use the existing resources which ultimately will lead to increased plant performance. Therefore, to evaluate the benefits of intercropping maize and beans and assess its impact on yield and yield’s component, an experiment was conducted in factorial design with randomized complete block design in three replication, in 20...

Climate Change and Maize Yield in Iowa

Climate is changing across the world, including the major maize-growing state of Iowa in the USA. To maintain crop yields, farmers will need a suite of adaptation strategies, and choice of strategy will depend on how the local to regional climate is expected to change. Here we predict how maize yield might change through the 21st century as compared with late 20th century yields across Iowa, US...
